About Us
The Urban Settler is a full service furnishing & interior decorating company. Locally owned & founded in 1998, our home is the historic Livery Building in Fernie, British Columbia. We are purveyors Canadian made custom sofas, bedding, & window shades. We feature lighting, rugs, & furnishings from Canadas top suppliers.
Our Story
The Urban Settler was founded in North Vancouver British Columbia in 1998 by owner Paul Arcoite. The company specialized in sourcing & restoring antique furniture, and the designing & manufacturing of reclaimed wood furniture & feature walls. In addition to local custom work, the company supplied retailers, architects, and designers across western Canada, and became well known for its work in restaurant and hospitality décor.
Evolution
In 2012 The Urban Settler opened a furnishings & interior design store in Fernie British Columbia.
The company permanently moved its operations to Fernie in 2015, making its home the historic Livery Building in downtown Fernie.
The company now specializes in residential interior décor, design, and furnishings.
Our Store
Our store is located in downtown Fernie on 2nd Avenue in the historic Livery Building, which was constructed in 1908 using stones harvested from the mighty Elk River. The building was built by the Fernie Livery, Dray, and Transfer Co. which once served the Elk Valley delivering dry goods and coal to homes and businesses. More than 100 years later, from this same location, The Urban Settler is proud to serve Fernie, The Elk Valley, Kootenays, and beyond. We have recently opened a second location on second avenue beside the Livery building, doubling our sqaure footage. The space includes warehouse and additional showroom and ensures our ability to offer a greater selection of furniture and décor to our clients.
